Five Nights at Freddy's the bite of 87

The Bite of '87 was an incident that occurred in 1987 at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza; it is briefly mentioned by the Phone Guy in Five Nights at Freddy's, "...they used to be allowed to walk around during the day. But then there was The Bite of '87." The details of this attack (and the identity of the animatronic responsible) are not given, but it allegedly caused the loss of the frontal lobe of the victim's brain.

The incident cost the restaurant its reputation, which resulted in a major drop in business. However, the restaurant would have closed down either way because of the conditions of the restaurant and the many health violations. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 suggests that the attack occurs during the day after the game's Night 6 (when Jeremy Fitzgerald is asked to work the day shift and to stay close to the animatronics).

As a result of the incident, the animatronics were no longer allowed to wander around the building during the day; the management decided to limit their free-roaming mode to night-only so as to prevent their servos from locking up.

Trivia
If the attack happened after Night 6 in the second game, the Bite would have taken place on either the 13th or 14th of November 1987 (Jeremy's final check is dated for the 13th).
Interestingly enough, the 13th of November in the year 1987 was a Friday, making that particular day Friday the 13th, a day considered to be unlucky.
Jeremy Fitzgerald could have received the bite; during Night 4 (Five Nights at Freddy's 2), Jeremy was informed that the animatronics were starting to behave abnormally to adults and almost aggressive towards the staff, yet completely normal around the children in the establishment. During Jeremy's final shift on Night 6, Phone Guy tells him that he would be working the day shift for the restaurant's last event: a birthday party. Phone Guy tells Jeremy to stay close to the animatronics to make sure they don't hurt anybody during the party. This foreshadows Jeremy's possible fate of being the victim of the Bite.
Some fans have speculated that Foxy may have been the animatronic that had bitten the victim. This is most likely because he appears to be the most capable of doing so with his seemingly sharp and broken teeth. In Foxy's dwelling place, Pirate Cove, there is a sign that reads "Sorry! Out of Order." Foxy himself is in a state of disrepair, possibly suggesting that the attraction was shut down after the incident. Foxy's jaw also seems to hang loosely, as if it were damaged through excessive force. The second game, however, effectively rules out Foxy as the attacker, as he and the other old animatronics were most likely in Parts/Service when the bite took place. Toy Chica is also an unlikely culprit, as her beak makes it hard to actually bite effectively. This is also the case for The Puppet and BB (due to a lack of a hinged jaw piece).

-Still other fans speculate that Freddy himself was responsible for the Bite. On the posted rules in the East Hall in the original game, one of the rules listed states, "Don't touch Freddy." This rule may have been enacted after the Bite, it could also be because the killer disguised as Freddy to kill the children. There are also two instances of faint handprints or hand-shaped impressions on Freddy's face, implying that someone may have been struggling against him in some form or fashion. The second game seems to disprove this by hinting that incidents which had occurred in either the first restaurant (referenced in the second game) or the third (the restaurant of the original) are responsible for the handprints. It could also be Phone Guy's print, because on Night 4, Freddy's song plays when Phone Guy dies, so Phone Guy could have tried to defend himself from the animatronics.

-Another popular theory amongst fans is that The Mangle was the cause of The Bite, as its jump-scare involves it swinging from the ceiling of The Office with its jaws open. Upon inspection, it seems that Mangle attacks the upper area of Jeremy's head, where the frontal lobe is located. This further strengthens the possibility that The Mangle administrated the Bite of '87 in a similar fashion to its death screen. It is also known that this animatronic is dismantled daily by the kids and that the staff eventually just left it as a "take apart and put back together" attraction, which could have led it to either hate children, see a child as a possible threat, or otherwise become unstable.

-The player is initially informed of the incident by the Phone Guy, who mentions it on The 1st Night of the first game, hinting that FNaF2 is a prequel.

-On the A.I. settings for the Custom Night in the first game, entering 1/9/8/7 will cause Golden Freddy's kill screen to appear and crash the game. This was added by Scott to halt rumors about entering 1/9/8/7 to acquire a supposed "secret ending" (a rumor originally started because of information about The Bite of '87 coming to light). This works for the Steam version of the game, the 1.1 version and onwards on Desura, and in the mobile version.

-Some fans theorize that the scream heard upon the player being attacked could be that of either the person bitten during the Bite, or one of the children from the The Missing Children Incident. This is supported by the fact that the full version of the scream is speculated to that of a child screaming, yet this could be an edited file of a group of children speaking, for the file has been replicated by editing a specific file off the website that Scott purchases his sounds from.

Five Nights At Freddy's Missing Children

The Missing Children Incident refers to the disappearance of five children who all went missing inside of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. This story is displayed in the East Hall Corner (CAM 4B) via newspaper clippings that replace the 'safety rules' poster and can change at any time during every night (including custom night) of Five Nights at Freddy's.

Background
At some point in time, a kidnapping and murder took place that resulted in five children going missing. Initially, two children went missing on the 26th of June, but police later believed that there were five missing children related to the incident. An unnamed suspect was arrested for the crime, but the children's bodies were never found. According to the police, the man dressed up as one of the restaurant's mascots to gain the victims' trust and lure the children in.

Parents attending the pizzeria after the events of the kidnappings called police in response to an appalling odor coming from the animatronics. They also reported seeing blood and mucus coming from the animatronics' faces (mainly around the mouths and eyes). Some parents compared the animatronics to "reanimated carcasses" because of the foul smell and blood.

Theories

The game doesn't confirm whether the man convicted for the incident was actually the murderer, or if kids were stuffed into the animatronics. Since the animatronics attempt to kill other people in a similar manner, some fans believe that the animatronics were the real murderers. Others believe that it was a homicidal employee (as they would have access to the costumes and the animatronics' AI controls), though the newspaper says nothing as to whether the killer was an employee. Scott's hinting of paranormal activity within the pizzeria gave rise to speculation that the ghosts of the five children (and the other victims) might have possessed the animatronics, which caused their macabre behavior. Most fan theories agree that the Purple Man from the Death Minigames is the true murderer involved in this incident, as he is usually present with the imagery of deceased children.

A variation of two certain theories speculates that the murderer may have been a previous night guard, which would explain why the animatronics are so determined to reach Mike Schmidt (and supposedly Phone Guy before him, as heard during Night 4's phone call). Since the killings may have occurred after-hours, this theory raises the possibility that the victims haunting the animatronics want revenge but can only remember for certain that their killer was a night guard (This is leading towards the other theory of where fans believe that the Phone Guy is stuffed into Golden Freddy).

Another theory speculates that the missing children were stuffed into the four animatronics. This would explain the animatronics' foul odor, the leaking blood and mucus, and the parents' comparisons to reanimated corpses. No one knows what happened to the fifth child, though it is theorized that the fifth child may have been stuffed into Golden Freddy. This could explain why Golden Freddy has a little girl's laugh. It is possible that all of the children were killed and disposed of in a more traditional way, though.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 hints that the previous day shift guard is the one who murdered the children. Phone Guy mentions on Night 5 of the second game that "no one is allowed in or out...especially concerning any...previous employees." This is also possible because Mike worked after both this incident and The Bite of '87 took place and due to the fact that Jeremy is the only protagonist to not be fired from his job as a night guard.

Another candidate could be Fritz Smith, the security guard on the Custom Night that is fired the following day after he tampers with the animatronics (just as Mike was). However, "tampering with the animatronics" could simply allude to the Custom Night gameplay where the player adjusts the A.I. levels of the animatronics. Also, the fact that Fritz worked after previous employees were neither allowed in or out possibly disproves this accusation.

Another theory proposed by the fan base is that Phone Guy is one of the likely candidates who took the missing children. This theory was brought up by MatPat of the famous YouTube theorizing gaming channel, The Game Theorists. The possible connections between The Purple Man and Golden Freddy to the Phone Guy are described; The Purple Man might be a security guard, which Phone Guy was, and The Purple Man's glowing white eyes in the rare "You can't" version of the SAVE THEM death minigame are similar to the ones Golden Freddy has in Five Nights and Freddy's and the player can see "You can't" on the bottom left corner of the death screen from The Purple Man.

Phone Guy also mentions that Foxy was his favorite, giving fans a reason to believe that he was responsible, as in the Foxy Death Minigame, The Purple Man is seen smiling outside Pirate Cove.

Trivia

Although the police stated that the killer was dressed in a mascot suit, Phone Guy states that the wires and beams within the suit would make it impossible for any human to stay alive while inside of it. But, the Phone Guy in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 states that someone used a spare, yellow suit, thus implying that it was an empty costume.
The bare endoskeleton may support the theory that the killer might have removed the wires and beams from his chosen costume before killing or kidnapping the children.
Also, Golden Freddy in the second game has wires sticking out of it, suggesting that the killer may have ripped out the wires and crossbeams to fit in.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 features a new gameplay mechanic where the player wears an empty Freddy Fazbear Head as a means of defense, which implies that there may have been an empty costume available for the kidnapper to wear during the day time, that is, if the mask was returned before the next night.
One popular theory suggests that the suit worn by the kidnapper is that of Golden Freddy. While Phone Guy implies this in Night 6 of the second game, it is still speculation at this point.
Also, by Golden Freddy's appearance in the second game (with wires popping out of the eyes and shoulders), it would surely be impossible to get in the suit, although, these wires could just be hanging out of the outside of the suit, being barely inside. This could, however, also mean that the wires and beams were removed and the ones seen are just leftovers.
There is another recently popular theory that suggests that The Puppet was the possible murderer or orchestrator of the Incident. The Death Minigames in the second game seem to back up the idea, as in the "Give Gifts, Give Life" minigame, that The Puppet is shown putting the heads of the original animatronics (Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy) onto the corpses of children. During the SAVETHEM Death Minigame, Freddy must chase The Puppet, as if trying to catch or stop it, but The Puppet could also be trying to lead it.

Five Nights At Freddy's

Five Nights At Freddy's

Game Information:

Welcome to your new summer job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where kids and parents alike come for entertainment and food as far as the eye can see! The main attraction is Freddy Fazbear, of course; and his two friends. They are animatronic robots, programmed to please the crowds! The robots' behavior has become somewhat unpredictable at night however, and it was much cheaper to hire you as a security guard than to find a repairman.

From your small office you must watch the security cameras carefully. You have a very limited amount of electricity that you're allowed to use per night (corporate budget cuts, you know). That means when you run out of power for the night- no more security doors and no more lights! If something isn't right- namely if Freddybear or his friends aren't in their proper places, you must find them on the monitors and protect yourself if needed!

Can you survive five nights at Freddy's?

"For all the simplicity of the game’s controls and premise, Five Nights at Freddy‘s is frightening. It’s a fantastic example of how cleverness in design and subtlety can be used to make an experience terrifying. Simple still images and proper character design steal the show in this game, and show that Scott Cawthon knows quite a lot about the secret fears people feel when looking at creepy dolls and toys. It’s elegant in how it sows fear, and is a must-own for anyone who likes scary games."

Story:

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was once a popular restaurant for adults and children alike. However, due to a number of incidents - including the kidnapping and implied murder of five children by a man wearing an empty animatronic suit, sanctions by the Health Department over the numerous reports of dirtiness, and "The Bite of '87" - the pizzeria has fallen on hard times. Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is set to close by the end of the year, as potential buyers do not want to be associated with the restaurant's tainted reputation.

The four mascots - Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Bunny, Chica the Chicken, and Foxy the Pirate Fox - had a particularly foul odor and what appeared to be "blood and mucus" around their eyes and mouths, which concerned parents had interpreted as "reanimated carcasses".

The Phone Guy remarks in the 1st Night phone message that the animatronics have not had a bath in their 20+ years of service, which would explain the nasty odor. The stench could also be attributed to a popular theory that the missing children were stuffed into the animatronic suits after they were killed, and that their decomposing bodies were producing the repulsive smell.

Due to the risk of their servos locking up from disuse, the animatronics have been left in a "free roaming mode" at night over the years. They used to be able to roam freely during the day as well, but The Bite of '87 prompted the pizzeria to put a stop to this.

The Phone Guy has unfortunately vanished, as heard during the phone call on The 4th Night, and is implied to have been stuffed into a suit and/or killed. There are many theories as to what happened to Phone Guy after the call cuts out, but one can be certain that he was attacked.

There is also speculation about a more complicated and twisted version of the plot, due to the phone message heard during The 5th Night.
